Duplicate Content - Its Not What You Think

If “duplicate content” had a persona - it would be wringing it’s hands. crying and screaming
“I am so misunderstood.”

(Actually just said that so I can use this pic) ;-)

Jim AKA jcorkern, clarifies the duplicate content issue and shatters some Google myths for us over at the 5 Star forum.

Duplicate Content: It’s Not What You Think!

.

“I have been seeing in a lot of threads the misunderstanding of duplicate content. I am writing this to eliminate the misunderstanding so that fear of something does not effect your online marketing. I guess the first thing is to cover the assumptions of the masses of what it is, and then show you the reality of it.

I will give you actual numbers and links so that you can check it out yourself. Then you can see for yourself with proof that there are a lot of people out there spreading “Rumors” instead of facts.

Let’s get started. Most people think that syndicated articles or distribution to multiple places will get the articles removed from the index of Google or Yahoo. If this were true then 99% of articles, news releases, all RSS feeds would be removed from the indexes.

MSN, CNN, ABC, NBC, Google News, Yahoo News would all be violating their own rules.” Read the rest

Welcome to the third edition of the Bloggers Face-Off. After featuring Problogger against Shoemoney and John Chow against Matt Coddington I am happy to announce that on this round we will have two famous SEO bloggers.Rand Fishkin runs one of the most authoritative SEO blogs across the Internet, SEOMoz. Lee Odden is the man behind the Online Marketing Blog, and the CEO of a search marketing agency called TopRank Online Marketing. Lee and Rand were very nice and available when I contacted them. I was fearing that Rand would not even reply my email, let alone answer the questions twice because the first time they were not completely clear :) . Anyway I tried to include some SEO related questions this time so it should be a interesting and useful reading for everyone.

The first edition of the Bloggers Face-Off was quite a success, featuring Problogger Darren Rowse against Internet Marketer Jeremy Schoemaker (click here to read). A lot of people suggested that a voting system would add to some salt to the challenges. While the initial purpose of the Bloggers Face-Off was only to provide an interesting reading for everyone I recognize that a voting system could make things more funny. Secondly it will also make it possible to create second rounds where we match the winners of past challenges against each other! Since there was no voting session on the first edition both Darren and Jeremy will receive a free pass to the second round. This edition of the Bloggers Face-Off will feature two bloggers that help people make money online. The first one is the personification of evil itself, also known as the Dot Com Mogul, John Chow. The second one, Matt Coddington, started blogging only a couple of months ago but he is already gaining a lot of popularity in his niche.
